Stanley Park

Located on the periphery of downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park is appropriately known as an urban oasis with loads of natural splendor. The city of Vancouver was carved out of dense forests and the unspoiled beauty of Stanley Park with its giant trees is the living evidence of Vancouver in former days.

Originally designated as a military reserve by the British in the 1860s, the park was later leased officially to the Vancouver City Council. Stanley Park boasts of the ancient trees above the forest floor, as high as 76 m (250 ft). It is the largest city-owned park in Canada with 1000 acre sanctuary which attracts a large number of visitors every year.

Besides abundant natural beauty, the park also has many man-made facilities like a seawall which circles the park to provide a paved path for cyclists, pedestrians and in-line skaters. Children’s Farmyard, miniature rail road, sport track and a beautiful water park are the other popular attractions at Stanley Park. Monuments, statues and plagues also stand here to commemorate the region’s history.
