Robson Street

Named after John Robson, the first premier of British Columbia, the commercial traditions began on this unique street in 1895 when train tracks were develpoed. Later several shops too were opened to serve the growing population of Vancouver. The commercial blocks areas from Burrard Street to Jervis were known as Robsonstrasse. It was then known for its European flair as the street was mostly covered with the most modern French boutiques and European shopkeepers that used to operate small food shops with ready-to-eat items.

As the time progressed and rates rose higher, most of the stores were edged out and the area lost its European character. Robson Street nevertheless has evolved in its character and popularity and you will still find the eclectic mix of shops and restaurants.

The street is famous for Pacific Centre which is a place where you literally can spend all day and if time and energy left, visit Vancouver Art Gallery which is at a stone’s throw from Pacific Centre. If you love books then browse some books in Chapters Book Store. Shopping can easily make you hungry, so enjoy different delicacies at one of the hundred plus restaurants sprinkled in between the shops.
